15th November, 1912.
sir,
I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your
letter dated 2nd October last, and to inform you in reply that
the employment of a regular officer as Private Secretary to a
Colonial Governor is not recognized by this office, and the
effect of appointing Lieutenant L.R.E.W. Taylor, Royal
Artillery, as your extra Aide-de-Camp would render him
liable to the provisions of Article 485 of the Pay Warrant.
Lieutenant Hon: FitzR. R. Somerset, Grenadier
!
Guards,
:
has embarked for Hong Kong before receiving official
sanction, and, if approved, his appointment would in the
ordinary course be that of extra Aide-de-Camp with the
liability mentioned above.
Under these circumstances I am to enquire whether
you still desire that Lieutenant Taylor should be appointed
extra Aide-de-Camp.
I am,
Sir 1
Your obedient Servant,
(Sgd:)
W. E. Franklyn,
Sir F.H. May, K.C.M.G.,
Governor and Commander in Chief,
Hong Kong.
Lieut: General, M.8.
